Why do we need a Treatment aid mode?

The infected dentine emits a rather dark red florescence signal. This is the part the dentist wants to remove once the tooth is opened. Therefore, we amplify this infected dentine to highlight it and make it clearly visible for him.

Why don’t we use the Treatment aid mode for diagnosis if it highlights even better the infected dentine?

If you use the Treatment aid mode for diagnosis purpose, you may have many red, false alerts due to organic deposits in the mouth of the patient. If you use the Treatment aid mode for screening and looking for caries, a complete cleaning of the mouth is needed to avoid those false alerts.

The fluorescence signal shows a carious infiltration probably due to organic deposits. After cleaning, the red fluorescence disappears. It confirms the false alert of the red fluorescence in treatment aid mode whereas nothing appears in diagnosis aid mode.
